(Excerpts from a 1950 Publication by H.J. Tunstall)

Methodism began in Gassaway during 1904 through the organization of a Sunday school in the Davis Grade School building.

In November 1904, a lot was purchased from the Gassaway Development Company for the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. A contract for the construction of the M. E. Church, South was awarded in 1907. In August of 1908 the building was dedicated.

What was to become the United Methodist Church began on Dec 6, 1945 with the purchase of a lot. The cornerstone was laid on May, 6 1950.
